How does it work and how can I take advantage of my skills?
We talk a lot in coaching of the value of using our intuition. We believe that intuition comes from within us coaches and therapists. We get it to us by our relationship with our clients and it is always about our clients.
I am convinced that my intuition is true, but as I interpret it, it may be wrong. I design with my clients that it's ok for me to just blurt what comes to me straight out. Sometimes it lands with the client and sometimes not right there and then, but sometimes it lands later.
A few years ago I was coaching a woman and suddenly said, "horse", I just blurted it out.
- My intuition says horse.
My client looked really happy and started telling me that she used to go to a stable with Icelandic horses and she loved to pat and brush them.
- I will absolutely start doing that again, it made me feel so good!
If I had interpreted my intuition...
If I had interpreted my intuition it had come out quite differently. As I go to riding school once a week, I had assumed that she should to the same, and tell her to start taking lessons at a riding school to feel better. It was absolutely nothing she wanted to do, I understood later. She does not want to ride, but just being with the horses and pamper them.
We therapists have strong intuition and I encourage you to blurt it, for the client's best! Blurt your intuition, do not interpret, and see how it lands with your clients.
